ACADEMY CONSULTATION

Brookdale Primary is currently a Local Authority Maintained school. Approximately a year ago the Governing Body started to think about the benefits of conversion to Academy status: we now believe that not only is it the right time to convert the school’s status, it is indeed necessary to safeguard the identity and ethos of the school. Due to the political agenda that all schools will become an academy, we feel that we need to take action now in order to allow us to be in control of the future of the school.

As an Academy, our funding would change slightly as it would come directly from the DfE rather than the Local Authority. We would join over 12,000 other schools that have successfully converted and be in a better position to manage the school in our own way to continue providing a nurture-based education with the absolute best value-added learning experiences possible. Equally as important to consider is the real risk of not converting and being ultimately forced to join another Academy chain or Multi Academy Trust (MAT); one may not share our values and ethos.

After a process that has included the Governing Board meeting with the CEOs from many different academy trusts, we have decided that the best available MAT for Brookdale Primary to join is Leading Learners Academy Trust.

In order to continue to ensure that Brookdale Primary School continues with its current ethos and can remain as a community school for all our children both now and in the future, we firmly believe that conversion to Academy status as part of a Multi Academy Trust represents the best course of action for our school.

Part of the Academy conversion process is for us to consult with the school community. We want to hear your suggestions and opinions. Below, in the files, you will find the consultation letter, the response form and a list of FAQs. If you would like a hard copy of these two documents please call in at the school office and copies will be printed for you.

We are also holding a meeting whereby we would welcome the opportunity to talk to you about academy status. This will be attended by the CEO, Deputy CEO and CFO of the Leading Learner Trust so you can meet that team in person and ask any questions you may have. The meeting will be held at school as follows:

Drop-in Q&A Session on 12th March 2024

  • Staff Meeting                3.45pm
  • Parent/Carer meeting    5.30pm

In order for us to gather as broad and deep a range of opinions as possible, we strongly urge you to participate by attending the organised information session. If you are unable to attend this session, but would like further information or would like to respond to our consultation, you can do so in the following ways:

  • Telephone: 0151 677 5170
  • Email: [email protected]
  • Paper feedback: Leave paper feedback in the office at main entrance

The consultation period ends on 15th March 2024
